The Cabin Road

June in the year -86
Our Sierra was almost new
Dad fueled the car and mom packed the lunches
I already sat in the back seat
Smiling widely all buckled up
Dingo sang The Girl In The Leather Jacket

Grandpa told about the Continuation War
About that undersergeant Rokka
At that time I didn’t understand much about anything
I was just enjoying the vacation

Dad, let me drive the cabin road
I promise I’ll bring water to the sauna
I remember the rocks and stumps of this gravel road
In my mind I was Henry Toivonen
A rally idol of little boys
Dad laughed, mom was too scared to look

The summer ended I was told
There will come no more trips to Evitskog
The parents divorced and the cabin was sold
Yesterday I drove the cabin road
I remembered it taking longer
Familiar routes changed into black surfaces

And grandpa doesn’t talk about the war no more
He’s growing hay in honkanumpi *buried
Now I better understand the story
And I appreciate his deeds

Dad, let me drive the cabin road
I promise I’ll bring water to the sauna
I remember the rocks and stumps of this gravel road
In my mind I was Henry Toivonen
A rally idol of little boysDad laughed, mom was too scared to look

Pariisin Kevät - Odotus

Waiting

Hey, don't be afraid of your voice
It echoes back from the walls
For me, your song is the most beautiful
I listen like a tiger hiding in the grass
I see you as the most beautiful bird
The cage door isn't closed
You are there from your own will
But if you decide to dare
I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting
I will take you in my arms
And no one can ever get in between us

I sharpen these teeth
Listening to a beautiful song
When I dream about your flight
I'll catch you in the air

I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting
I will take you in my arms
And no one can ever get in between us

Somewhere close by, time is waiting for someone to stop it
Always close by
Hey, don't be afraid of your voice
It echoes shrilled from the walls

For me, your laughter is the most beautiful
When I grab you by the wings
But if you decide to come out

I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting
I will take you in my arms
And no one can ever get in between us

I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting silently by the door
I will be waiting
I will take you in my arms
And no one can ever get in between us

Rules for Love

We can't want each other so, that we lie
at home to our loved ones, this is the first rule.
We can't  say to each other: "What if we'd take it all off?
We'll open the the last gate." This is rule number two.

We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, slow down for the intersections in time.
We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, and turn for home in time.

We can't look at each other so, so that we'll reveal the truth.
We'll let in and stay side by side forever, this is already rule number three.
We can't need each other so, so that we'd sink.
And we can't live on our own, this is the rule most hopeless.

We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, slow down for the intersections in time.
We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, and turn for home in time.

We can't abandon each other, what if we do fall in love after all?
If we were created as one in the beginning, this is the last rule.

We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, slow down for the intersections in time.
We have to invent the rules for love.
And love within their boundaries, and turn for home in time.

Samuli Putro - Olet Puolisoni Nyt

You Are My Spouse now

No prairies, no fields, no mountaintops
There's a city and in it two senior citizens
The other wakes to a repeating nightmare and gets out of bed
The wolves aren't howling and the water's not ice cold
The spouses body covered by two quilts
The other one was a present, it's edge fraying
The gaze freezes, the time not

The tears begin to flow just downstairs
The silence is so perfectly silent
That a whisper is a shout
I wouldn't trade a second
Not the youth, not the mad growing pains
Not the ice that broke, not the church bells
You were my spouse then, you are my spouse now

The wall is wallpapered and the floor is wood
Photographs of the dog and the grandchildren
The upstairs is coughing, a step is missed
The film stops
I call this the love of two people
I call this life even though
I haven't performed perfectly either

The tears begin to flow just downstairs
The silence is so perfectly silent
That a whisper is a shout
I wouldn't trade a second
Not the youth, not the mad growing pains
Not the ice that broke, not the church bells
You were my spouse then, you are my spouse now

The potent spring blossoms
And the morning wears an iron suit
When the shed is made of soapstone
There I am young like the lawns
You sit in the corner table of the room
The music is rhythmic
I ask if I can have a dance, you nod
You nod

The tears begin to flow just downstairs
The silence is so perfectly silent
That a whisper is a shout
I wouldn't trade a second
Not the youth, not the mad growing pains
Not the ice that broke, not the church bells
You were my spouse then, you are my spouse now

Your Bad Days

The light refracts like this in your window
floating across the room toward the wall
Covering you in distant movements
that's what really makes you beautiful
I'll always stay as ugly as always
as ugly as in my class photos

I liked how you stirred
for a second and then swam back to sleep
I looked closely at those expressions
that tells me that you are you
I have exactly two expressions
one of them in use right now

When I'll know all your bad days by heart
you can invite the nights in
When I'll know all your nightmares by heart
you can invent more

I'l remember you inch by inch
but not our anniversaries
For some reasons numbers wont stay in my mind
but images like these
The light grabs the bed cover
I'll make a shield for you with my hands

When I'll know all your bad days by heart
you can invite the nights in
When I'll know all your nightmares by heart
you can invent more

Some day, through and through, I will get to know
your dreams and history

When I'll know all your bad days by heart
you can invite the nights in
When I'll know all your bad days by heart…

Note: I translated the part "Muistan sinut sentti sentiltä" to I remember you inch by inch because I thought it fits in better. Direct translation and maybe the correct one would be centimeter by centimeter but that doesn't sound as good.

Pariisin Kevät - Kesäyö

A summer night

I sat in the dark,
a moment started and it felt…
…like it would never end.
For a moment silence came to me,
like a creature and shouted,
"Don't be afraid of the world."
We sat together for a while
and the universe was looking down upon us.

And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.
And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.

I wake up on the beach,
the night is brighter than the day.
The dots of light glide into the morning.
I have forgotten where I came from,
I drape myself in the cape of oblivion
but I remember airships, flying into the skyline.

And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.
And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.

I sit in the dark,
still waiting for the moment that will never end.
A silence would arrive,
telling me how everything eventually disappears.
I see the lights in the sky
and cold chills run down my spine.

And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.
And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.

And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.
And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.

And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.
And outside, a summer night.
Tears rained down my face.

Zen Café - Todella kaunis

Really beautiful

We would meet when it's important
No one would get to bother us and tell us what to do
We would give each other a reason for silence
So you're buying time and I'm the one selling it

You are really beautiful, you only live once
You are really intelligent, you only live for a moment
You are really beautiful, you only live once
You are really intelligent, you only live for a moment

We would take anything from each other
What I'd get from you, could replace…
…the restless evenings and the sleepless nights,
spaces, useless fumblings and the the insignificant works

You are really beautiful, you only live once
You are really intelligent, you only live for a moment
You are really beautiful, you only live once
You are really intelligent, you only live for a moment

I would catch you without a question
I wouldn't be afraid to be in you
I would catch you without a question
I wouldn't be afraid to be in you
I would catch you without a question
I wouldn't be afraid to be in you
I would catch you without a question
I wouldn't be afraid to be in you
I would catch you without a question
I wouldn't be afraid to be in you

You are really beautiful, you only live once
You are really intelligent, you only live for a moment
You are really beautiful, you only live once
You are really intelligent, you only live for a moment
Really beautiful, you only live once
Really intelligent, you only live for a moment
Really beautiful, you only live once
Really intelligent

We could create a miracle for each other
If you are able as I am able to see
